Let’s face it no one likes rules, but with a bit of common sense and respect for others, you’ll find it easy to follow these basic beach guidelines in Sardinia.
1. Don’t Leave Your Umbrellas or Chairs Overnight
This is a tactic usually seen at hotel swimming pools, but believe it or not it happens on the beach too. Please don’t try to save your spot for the next day. It’s inconsiderate to others.
2. Don’t Litter or Leave Cigarette Butts
Keep the area clean for everyone. Trust us, no-one wants to find your rubbish or Marlboro Reds buried in the sand the next day.
3. Camping Restrictions
It’s useful to note that Camping is a no-go everywhere except for authorised and paid campsites that have toilets and showers. Please don’t think you can set up camp where you please.
4. Protect Sand Dunes
Don’t step or stand on them, they pay a vital role in the coastal ecosystem. There are usually signs marking the areas where you shouldn’t tread.
5. No Ball Games on Crowded Beaches
Ball games aren’t allowed on crowded beaches for obvious reasons, but people do often break this rule. Just use your common sense before you start playing sports.
6. Restrictions on Dogs and Animals
Dogs and other animals are generally banned from the beach in summer and during bathing times (8am-8pm, 8am-7pm from September 1st, 8am-6pm from October 1st). Look for signs that indicate any exceptions.
7. No Loud Music
You may love Taylor Swift on full blast, but many people prefer to hear the natural sounds of the waves.
8. Don’t Take Sand, Stones, or Algae
Removing these contributes to beach erosion. Sardinia has some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, we need to preserve them for future generations.
9. No Fishing in Swimming Areas
Fishing is not allowed in areas where people swim as this could cause injury to swimmers.
10. Smoking Restrictions
Some beaches don’t allow smoking, so check for signs before you light up.
Enjoy your time at the beach and remember to be considerate of others and the environment. By following these Sardinia beach rules, you’ll help keep the coast beautiful and enjoyable for everyone. Happy beachgoing!
