Fear not, our straightforward guide on where to stay in Sardinia for couples will help you decide on the best area and accommodation for your ideal romantic escape.
Is Sardinia a Good Choice for a Romantic Holiday?
Sardinia mixes natural beauty, privacy and a sense of luxury. While Venice, Lake Como and the Amalfi coast are the most-visited romantic destinations in Italy, Sardinia offers an understated and unique couples experience, making it a top choice for a romantic break.
Swim in turquoise waters, set sail to spot bottlenose dolphins, explore 2,000-year-old Nuragic sites and devour local wines, cheeses, and pasta delicacies. Unwind together and soak in the beauty of the “Caribbean of the Med”.

It’s your honeymoon – no better time to indulge. Below are some of the island’s top luxury resorts, perfect for this special moment.
The Best Areas to Stay for Honeymoons
Costa Smeralda, Northern Sardinia.
Closest airport Olbia (30km)
Costa Smerelda is home to the most lavish resorts and some of the islands’ most stunning coastline (including our favourites Cala Capriccioli and Spiaggia del Principe). Conveniently located near Porto Cervo for an evening spent enjoying top-notch bars and eateries, including three restaurants with Michelin stars. If you’re looking to explore further – you’re spoilt for choice, with the nearby La Maddalena Archipelago National Park just a ferry ride away.
Villasimisus, Southeast Sardinia
Closest airport Cagliari (60km)
Villasimius has a similarly impressive selection of 5-star resorts, and some of the best beaches you’ll find anywhere in Europe (shoutout to Punta Molentis and Porto Giunco). The vibe is more understated and laid back than the North (think cosy seafood trattoria vs sleek Michelin star), but more authentically Sardinian and the resorts are among some of the island’s best.

7Pines Resort
Best Hotels & Resorts to Stay for Honeymoons
7Pines Resort
Costa Smerelda
You’re in safe hands. 7 Pines is one of the best resorts in Sardinia, with years of newlywed expertise including a bespoke honeymoon service. Go for one of the “Beach Suites” which boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the stunning Baja Sardinia coast, leading out to your private terrace and beach. The whole area is surrounded by 15 hectares of fragrant Mediterranean gardens, with traditional pinnettas (shepherd’s huts) and you can spend evenings relaxing in the inclusive spa, massage and ‘tranquillity lounge’ or dining in one of three top-rated onsite restaurants and bars.
Hotel Cala di Volpe
Costa Smeralda
Designed by visionary French architect Jacques Coulle in 1964, the hotel’s rustic stone walls set a warm, relaxed tone of Sardinian luxury. Here you can swim in one of Europe’s largest saltwater pools, take a private helicopter tour over the Costa Smeralda coastline, or join a guided hike of local Nuragic sites. Or if you prefer, you can simply unwind and chill on the hotel’s private beach.
Su Gologone Experience Hotel
Oliena
Family-owned Su Gologone is perfect for those who want to get away from it all and enjoy a peaceful, private honeymoon. Nestled deep into the Barbagia mountains, you’ll be surrounded by 10 hectares of olive groves, vineyards and the scents of rosemary and myrtle. The interiors skilfully combine Sardinian tradition and artistry, while maintaining a contemporary and luxurious feel. There is no private beach (due to being inland), but instead, bathe under the stars in herb-infused waters from your private terrace or enjoy the spring-fed swimming pool.

Cagliari, Sardinia’s lively capital

FAQs
Which side of Sardinia is best to visit for couples?
For couples visiting Sardinia for the first time, we recommend visiting the most well-known romantic hotspots in the South (Cagliari, Villasimius, Castiads) and the Costa Smerelda in the North East. These areas are home to, arguably, the best beaches, and the nicest resorts and hotels.
Can you combine Sardinia with other parts of Italy on honeymoon?
Sardinia is a big island. We advise you to travel slowly to make the most of your experience. Unless you plan to travel for more than 2 weeks, we do not recommend combining a trip with other parts of Italy as it will feel too rushed.
When is best to visit Sardinia?
The best time to visit Sardinia is in the shoulder seasons on either side of July and August to avoid the busiest period, while the sea is still warm enough to swim. We recommend June and September.
How long to stay?
Ideally, you should stay for at least one week in Sardinia.
Do I need a car?
Public transport in Sardinia is notoriously unreliable and private taxis are expensive. Unless you are staying in Cagliari or near Olbia centre, we advise you to rent a car. This allows you to explore more of the island freely.
How safe is Sardinia for tourists?
Sardinia is a very safe island in general. However, follow the usual precautions regarding care of your personal belongings in case of petty crime such as pickpocketing, more-so in the cities.
Where do celebrities stay in Sardinia?
Celebrities and VIPs like to stay in the Costa Smeralda area in the North. This area is home to most luxury and upmarket hotels, resorts and amenities.
How much does a luxury stay cost?
The price depends on the time of the year and the resort. Prices can range from £200 per night, up to £1000 per night in July and August. Check here at booking.com to see the latest prices.
