Overview Of Spiaggia Porto Sa Ruxi

Porto Sa Ruxi beach is one of those natural beauties that truly captures the essence of Sardinia.

Located in the south near Villasimius, the beach consists of three small coves with fine white sand and beautiful dunes. Mediterranean flora, ancient juniper trees, and the fragrant scents of myrtle and lentiscus shrubs surround the whole area.

Each cove is separated by granite rocks and backed by soft, sandy hills that provide shelter on windy days, especially from the mistral, a strong wind from the north. The turquoise, shallow waters resemble natural swimming pools, making it a perfect spot for families with children to enjoy.

Secluded at the far end of the beach, is a fourth rocky cove, which is a popular spot for naturists.

The beach is part of Villasimius district, with the closest resort town being Porto Sa Ruxi, which shares its name with the beach.

Why Are Sand Dunes So Important Here?

Being a beautiful sight to the eyes is not their only quality. Dunes are the result of years of sediments that have been moved by waves and wind, creating a peculiar ecosystem in which unique and endangered plants grow. These plants help to protect the coast from erosion.

Be careful, as stepping on dunes in certain locations might cost you a hefty fine of up to £500. Look for signs to not step on the dunes and take a read of our Sardinia beach rules article for more.
