Hotel San Teodoro Review, Sardinia: My Stay

Nestled along Sardinia’s stunning northeastern coast, San Teodoro is a lively seaside town known for superb white sandy beaches with crystal-clear waters and a party atmosphere, especially in summer. You’ll soon notice the background buzz of DJ sets, as clubs and bars become livelier as the holiday season approaches.

But this was the Easter break when I visited, and while the bars were mostly empty, a few erupted into a contest of who could play the loudest music, drawing in only a handful of tourists nearby.

The town itself is an affordable alternative to nearby Costa Smeralda (with beaches just as beautiful) – from the famous La Cinta Beach and it’s 5 km of fine white sand and inviting water, to the lovely bays of Lu Impostu and “Little Tahiti” Cala Brandinchi.

You can see the imposing Tavolara Island from many angles around the area, and catching glimpses of it in the background sometimes feels like a giant staring back at you. In San Teodoro you’ll find bustling night markets, hiking trails in the nearby Monte Nieddu as well as snorkelling and diving opportunities. The area is a coastal gem that blends natural beauty and outdoor adventure, with nightlife with authentic Sardinian charm.

Overview: What to Expect at Hotel San Teodoro

Tucked away just 10 minutes from the vibrant town of San Teodoro, this contemporary hotel offers guests a minimalist sanctuary with crisp white interiors, a tranquil garden, and a striking pool. It took us about 20 minutes to drive from the nearest airport in Olbia.

There is a large car park at the front and the entrance feels grand and welcoming. It could be because it is the beginning of the season but the clean lines, calming simplicity in the design, and quiet surroundings make it feel very tranquil. My instinct s that the hotel is particularly suited to couples, or solo travellers, but families would not dislike it either. If you’re seeking relaxation over resort-style entertainment, you’ve come to the right place.

It’s worth noting that the hotel is a bit far away from San Teodoro centre, but a shuttle bus runs regularly to the town and nearby beaches —ideal during high season when parking is scarce.

Rooms and Facilities: Simple comfort with a view

After a very informative check-in, we were escorted into a lift taking us to the upper level. Our room was at the end of a long and well-lit corridor with large windows. 77 rooms in total are arranged around a central Mediterranean style courtyard with palms, which serves as alfresco dining for the restaurant in summer. That alone is already a holiday image to me! Some rooms look out over the swimming pool or gardens and the countryside nearby, while others face a car park fitted with solar panels.

The room themselves are spacious but minimal in decor, inside you’ll find the very much needed aircon in summer, a mini fridge stocked with water and beer, a small wardrobe, a desk, a security safe, and a modest terrace. Don’t expect in-room coffee or extra frills.

The standout feature of this hotel is the large pool surrounded by a well-kept garden. There’s also a stylish, albeit modestly equipped gym and an upscale restaurant and bar near the reception (which we didn’t get a chance to try).

Our mornings begin with a very generous breakfast spread, with croissants, cakes, fruits, yoghurt, cereals and the usual suspects: bread and jams, eggs and bacon. One downside? A rather early check-out time of 10:30 AM, but it appears that many hotels in the area are aligned with these times.

How To Get Around

Set back from the main buzz of San Teodoro and 25km from the nearest airport of Olbia, the hotel requires a hire car—or you can pre-book their shuttle to get there from the airport. There’s also another local shuttle bus that serves the town of San Teodoro and the beaches nearby – this is very useful. It’s often difficult to find parking in summer, and with the shuttle you’ll also skip the pricy parking fees of some of the nearby beaches.
